Nicolas de Grigny was a French organist and composer, who lived in the late seventeenth century. Despite his relatively short life, Grigny left an indelible mark on the world of Baroque music, and is known for his innovative and creative approach to organ music.

Grigny was born in 1672 in Rheims, France, into a family of musicians. It is believed that he began his musical training as a choirboy at the cathedral of Rheims, where he would have had the opportunity to work with some of the finest musicians of his time. Later, he received further training in Paris, studying with some of the most renowned musicians and composers of the era.

Grigny's most famous work is undoubtedly his "Livre d'Orgue," a collection of organ music which is still widely performed and studied by contemporary musicians. The book includes a set of organ masses, as well as a selection of hymns, antiphons, and other religious pieces. It is widely regarded as a masterpiece of French Baroque music, and is notable for its intricate counterpoint and harmonic complexity.

Despite his musical talents, Grigny's life was cut tragically short when he died of tuberculosis at the age of just 31.
