Modesta Bor was an accomplished Filipino composer and musician who lived from 1905 to 1995. Born in Manila, Bor showed a natural talent for music from an early age and began studying the piano and music theory at a young age.

She was a graduate of the University of the Philippines Conservatory of Music, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in composition. She also had the opportunity to further her studies in composition and orchestration with noted American music scholars in New York City.

Bor's compositions predominantly drew inspiration from traditional Filipino music, using rhythms and melodies that were associated with the country's cultural heritage. She was also influenced by modern classical music, and this melding of influences created a unique and distinctive sound that established her as one of the foremost composers of her generation.

Among her most famous compositions were her pieces for piano, including "Visayas Suite," which featured traditional Visayan music; "Mga Awit ng Ligaya," which was inspired by the Filipino folk song tradition; and "Doble Koncerto," a two-piano concerto.

In addition to her work as a composer, Bor was also a much-beloved teacher, and her dedication to teaching the next generation of Filipino musicians was one of the defining aspects of her career. She taught for many years in schools such as the St. Scholastica's College and the University of the Philippines Conservatory of Music, where she served as head of the composition department.

Modesta Bor's contributions to the development of classical music in the Philippines were immense, and her legacy continues to inspire and influence Filipino musicians to this day.
