Michelangelo Falvetti was an Italian composer who lived in the 17th century. He was born in Roccaforzata, a small town in the southern Italian region of Calabria, in 1642, and died in Palermo in 1692. Falvetti was a prolific composer who wrote a variety of works, including operas, oratorios, and sacred music.

One of Falvetti's most notable works is "Il Diluvio Universale," a five-voice oratorio based on the biblical story of Noah's Ark. This work was first performed in Messina in 1682 and has since been regarded as one of the most important musical works of the Baroque era.

Falvetti was also known for his operas, some of which have been rediscovered in recent years. His opera "Nabucco" was discovered in the archives of the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem in the early 2010s and has since been performed by a number of early music ensembles.

Falvetti's music is characterized by its expressive melodies, rich harmonies, and intricate counterpoint. He was a master of the Baroque style, which emphasized elaborate ornamentation and virtuosic instrumental and vocal techniques.

Despite his significant contributions to the Baroque repertoire, Falvetti's music largely fell into obscurity after his death, and many of his works were lost or forgotten.
