Guido Alberto Fano (1875-1961) was an Italian composer , pianist, conductor, and writer on music. He began studying music at the age of nine and later worked with prominent music educators such as Vittorio Orefice and Cesare Pollini in Padua. Pollini wrote highly of Fano's musical abilities and practical skill in piano playing.

Fano spent much of his time in Germany and Austria , where he developed himself as a composer and as a pianist. His music was firmly anchored to his own compositional skills, and he was known for his virtuosity and distinctive style.

Fano's works include a Piano Sonata in E Minor and Quattro Fantasie, which showcase his influence from the German romantic tradition. He was also known for his Piano Quintet, which demonstrated his mature compositional voice and his ability to integrate tonal and chromatic elements.

Despite his contributions to music, Fano and other Italian Jewish composers faced persecution under the fascist regime in Italy. In 1938, he was dismissed from his position at the Florence Conservatory due to the onset of anti-Semitic laws. This marked the beginning of a period of exile and hardship for Fano, who eventually settled in the United States, where he continued to compose and teach.
