Martin Dalby was a composer, music producer, and former head of music BBC Scotland. He was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1942 and passed away in 2018. During his career, Dalby was a prolific composer, writing music for churches, brass bands, orchestras, and more. He was also a respected music producer and served as the head of music at BBC Scotland for many years.

One of Dalby's passions was the music of the great Scots fiddler and composer , J. Scott Skinner, and he created his own five-movement orchestral composition based on Skinner's work.
