Martin Dalby was a composer, music producer, and former head of music BBC Scotland. He was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1942 and passed away in 2018. During his career, Dalby was a prolific composer, writing music for churches, brass bands, orchestras, and more. He was also a respected music producer and served as the head of music at BBC Scotland for many years.

One of Dalby's passions was the music of the great Scots fiddler and composer , J. Scott Skinner, and he created his own five-movement orchestral composition based on Skinner's work. In addition to traditional Scottish music, Dalby also composed in a variety of other genres, including contemporary classical music.

Dalby's contributions to the music world were recognized with numerous accolades and awards. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1985, and in 1993 he won the Creative Scotland Award for Music. Dalby was also awarded the OBE in 1999 for services to music.
