Codax's works are some of the most well-known and influential examples of this genre.
While not much is known about Codax's life, his music has continued to be celebrated and studied for centuries. He is believed to have lived in the mid-13th century, and his poems suggest that he may have been affiliated with the court of King Alfonso X of Castile.
Codax's surviving songs are included in the "Cantigas de Amigo" and number around 20 in total. They typically feature themes of love and desire, often expressed through striking imagery and metaphors. His song cycle is considered seminal in the history of medieval Iberian music.
