Kozina was educated at the Ljubljana Conservatory and later studied in Vienna and Prague. During his studies, he showed a gift for composition, which paved the way for his career as a composer.

Kozina's work is characterized by a unique blend of modern and traditional elements of Slovenian folk music, which earned him recognition both in Slovenia and internationally. His music is known for its rich harmonies, imaginative melodies, and rhythmic inventiveness.
