Marco Ambrosini was an Italian composer and musician born in 1964. He received his musical education in Italy, studying violin and composition at the Musical Institute of Padua. After completing his studies, he moved to Germany, where he began to explore different musical genres and styles, and where he became a well-known figure in the contemporary music scene.
Ambrosini was a virtuoso performer on the nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish instrument similar to a fiddle. He was especially known for his innovative experimentation with the nyckelharpa, which earned him a reputation as one of the instrument's leading practitioners worldwide. Ambrosini was also a highly regarded composer, whose compositions often combined elements of early music and world music.
Over the course of his career, Ambrosini collaborated with a wide range of musicians and ensembles, including the Mivos String Quartet, the Cassatt String Quartet, the hurdy-gurdy player Matthias Loibner, the oud player Yair Dalal, and the accordionist Jean-Louis Matinier. He recorded extensively, appearing on over 150 radio, television, and CD productions as a solo artist, composer, or member of an ensemble.
Ambrosini's music was characterized by its fusion of different styles and traditions, as well as by his inventive use of instrumental techniques.
