Hermann Ambrosius was a German composer and music educator born on July 25 , 1897, in Hamburg. He is mainly known for his compositions, which cover a variety of styles and genres. During the National Socialism period, he wrote various cantatas and songs in Nazi Germany. He died on October 25, 1983, at the age of 86.

Hermann Ambrosius started his musical education at the age of six at the Hamburg Conservatory, where he studied piano, violin, and composition. Later on, he also studied at the Leipzig Conservatory and the Berlin Academy of Music, learning from notable composers such as Max Reger and Franz Schreker.

Ambrosius was awarded numerous prizes and honors for his compositions, including the Mozart Medal of the Mozartgemeinde Wien and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. His compositions include works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments, as well as vocal music. Some notable works include his "Mandoline Suite G major" and his cantata "Glaube, Liebe, Hoffnung" for mixed chorus, soloists, and orchestra.

In addition to his composing work, Hermann Ambrosius was also an accomplished music educator, teaching at various institutions throughout his career. He taught composition and music theory at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik and the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater, and he also served as director of the Hamburg Conservatory.
