Marc Lavry (1903-1967) was a prolific Jewish composer who is considered to be one of the founders of 20th-century Israeli music. He was born in Riga, Latvia, but moved to Palestine in 1935 and immediately felt connected to the country as a composer. Lavry was a versatile composer, and his music spanned a wide variety of genres, including operas, film scores, symphonies, choral works, and songs.

Lavry wrote over 400 compositions during his career, and his work was strongly influenced by his Jewish heritage as well as his experiences living in Israel. His music often incorporated Jewish folk melodies and Middle Eastern rhythms, and had a distinctively Mediterranean flavor.

Throughout his career, Lavry received many honors and awards for his contributions to Israeli music, including the Israel Prize in 1954. Today, he is remembered as a pioneering figure in the development of modern Israeli music, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of composers in Israel and around the world.
