Marc-Andre Dalbavie is a French composer who was born on February 10, 1961, in Neuilly-sur-Seine. He attended the Conservatoire National Suprieur de Musique in Paris and later became a professor of orchestration at the Paris Conservatory. Dalbavie is known for his contemporary music compositions, which have been performed frequently all over the world.
He has worked with several renowned musicians, including Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes , for whom Dalbavie wrote a 25-minute piano concerto. Dalbavie has also been composer in residence with the Cleveland Orchestra.
One of his noteworthy works is the new 'Satin' which was performed at the Paris Opera in 2021, where it received praise for its innovative style. His composition "Flute" was also appreciated and played by flutist Demarre McGill.
Dalbavie has also written the music for several operas, including 'Charlotte Salomon', which premiered at Salzburg in 2014. He is known for maintaining an ironic distance in his compositions and sometimes writes music that makes him laugh out loud.
Dalbavie's compositions have been greatly influenced by Pierre Boulez, whom he studied conducting with. Critics have praised his music for its innovation and uniqueness.
