Loyset Compère was a Franco-Flemish composer of the Renaissance era, born in the early 1440s in the Hainaut region of modern-day Belgium. Little is known about his early life, but it is believed that he received his musical training in the chapel of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the city of Bruges, where he sang and played instruments.

Compère was a prolific composer, and his works covered a wide range of genres, including masses, motets, chansons, and instrumental music. His music was characterized by its complex melodic and harmonic structures and its imaginative use of counterpoint.

Compère's career flourished in the courts of Burgundy and Savoy, where he held various positions as a court musician. His reputation as a composer of sacred music was widespread, and many of his works were published and widely distributed throughout Europe.

One of Compère's most famous works is his Missa Galeazescha, a mass written in honor of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, the Duke of Milan. This mass is notable for its rich harmonies and intricate vocal parts, which showcase Compère's mastery of polyphonic writing.

Compère's influence continued to be felt long after his death, and his music continued to be performed and admired throughout the Renaissance and beyond.
