Full biography Leo Ascher
Leo Ascher was an Austrian-American composer of operettas, popular songs, and film scores. He was born on August 17, 1880, in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, and began composing at a young age, writing his first waltz at the age of 13. Ascher went on to compose numerous operettas, as well as music for popular songs and films.
Some of Ascher's most notable works include the operettas "Hoheit tanzt Walzer" and "Tänzchen im Pavillon", as well as the popular song "What'll I Do" which was later featured in the film "The Great Gatsby". As a composer, Ascher was known for his melodic and romantic style, and his music often featured Viennese waltzes and other dance forms.
In addition to his work as a composer, Ascher was also a pianist and conductor. He moved to the United States in the 1920s and continued to compose and perform until his death on February 25, 1942, in New York City. Today, Ascher is remembered as an important figure in the development of Viennese operetta, and his music continues to be performed and enjoyed by audiences around the world.
