Kornel Abranyi (1822-1903) was a Hungarian pianist, music theorist, writer, and composer. He was born in Szentgyorgyvar, which is now known as Sfantu Gheorghe, in Romania. Abranyi was a student of Frederick Chopin, and he became known for his innovative compositions, blending elements of Hungarian folk music with classical forms.

In addition to his work as a composer, Abranyi was also a music critic and theorist. He wrote extensively on music and was particularly interested in the musical traditions of Hungary. He believed that Hungarian folk music should be given greater prominence in classical music and advocated for composers to incorporate folk melodies and rhythms into their works.

Abranyi's compositions often featured elements of the Hungarian csardas dance, which he helped popularize. One of his most famous works is the Csardas no. 1 for piano, which is still performed today.

Although Abranyi was not widely known outside of Hungary during his lifetime, his contributions to music and criticism have been recognized in the years since his death. He is remembered as a pioneer of Hungarian classical music and a champion of incorporating folk traditions into classical forms.
