He was born on July 19, 1924, in Kent, England. Graham was known for his unique musical style that combined unconventional harmonies and rhythms with traditional jazz and swing influences, creating a sound that was both fresh and familiar.

In addition to his work in jazz, Graham was a talented essayist and author, publishing several articles on the history and evolution of jazz music. He also wrote a book on arranging for jazz ensembles, sharing his insights and techniques with aspiring musicians.

Graham established his musical career in the 1940s, composing and arranging for various jazz bands and orchestras.
