Kroly Thern was a Hungarian pianist, composer and arranger who lived from 1817 to 1886. He was born in Spiská Nová Ves, Slovakia and studied at the Conservatory in Prague. He served as the music director for the National Theatre in Pest and was also the director of the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca.

Thern's compositional output was vast and varied, ranging from opera to symphonic works, chamber music to choral pieces, and even wind band music. He was particularly known for his operatic works, which were inspired by the traditions of the Italian and French operatic styles. His works were often characterized by a masterful blend of melodic lines and complex harmonic structures.

In addition to his work as a composer, Thern was also an accomplished pianist and teacher. He was highly respected as a performer and his piano works were often featured in concert programs throughout Hungary and other parts of Europe. Thern also devoted much of his life to the teaching of music, and many of his pupils went on to become highly acclaimed musicians in their own right.
