Josepha Barbara Auernhammer (1758-1820) was an Austrian pianist and composer who was highly regarded for her virtuosity and musical talent during her time. She was born in Vienna, Austria, and was a child prodigy who began performing at a young age.

Under the tutelage of her father, who was also a music teacher, Auernhammer became an accomplished pianist and composer. She was highly skilled in the keyboard instruments such as the harpsichord, fortepiano, and clavichord, which were popular during the Classical era.

Auernhammer developed a close friendship with the famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was impressed by her musical talent. Mozart dedicated two of his compositions, the Sonata for Piano Four Hands in D major, K. 381 and the Sonata for Piano Four Hands in B-flat major, K. 358, to her.

Auernhammer lived and worked in Vienna, where she enjoyed a successful career as a piano teacher and performer. She composed several works for keyboard instruments, including sonatas, variations, and other pieces. However, despite her talent and influence, her work was often overshadowed by that of her male counterparts.

Today, Josepha Barbara Auernhammer is remembered as a pioneering figure in classical music, a virtuoso performer and a gifted composer. Her contributions to music continue to inspire the next generation of musicians, artists, and composers.
