Full biography Joseph Ryelandt
Joseph Ryelandt (1870-1965) was a Belgian classical composer known for his sacred vocal music , particularly several oratorios and masses. He was born in the Flemish town of Bruges and studied music with Eduard Tinel, one of Belgium's leading composers at the time. Ryelandt was a humble and reverent man, as evidenced by his own words in 1940: "If it is God's will that my works be propagated some day."
In addition to his vocal music , Ryelandt also composed chamber music for piano and strings, as well as orchestral works. He was active professionally during the first thirty years of the 20th century and was highly regarded in the Belgian music scene.
Ryelandt's music is characterized by a late romantic style, which can be heard in his melodic and harmonious compositions. His works have been recorded and performed by various artists, and his legacy continues to be celebrated in his hometown of Bruges.
