Jakub Jan Ryba (1765-1815) was a Czech composer and teacher, known primarily for his Czech Christmas Mass "Hey , Master!" ("Česká mše vánoční"), which he wrote in 1796. Ryba was a highly talented and versatile musician, and was active in the era of Mozart and Beethoven. He is also known for his work as a writer on music, and as a choirmaster and poet.

Ryba's Czech Christmas Mass is one of the most famous works of classical music in the Czech Republic, and is performed regularly during the Christmas season. The Mass is known for its joyful and exuberant character, and for its use of Czech folk melodies.

In addition to his work on the Czech Christmas Mass, Ryba composed a significant amount of sacred and secular music, including string quartets, flute quartets, and other instrumental works. Much of his orchestral music has unfortunately been lost over time.

Despite his musical talents, Ryba's life was marked by personal struggles and tragedy. He suffered from depression and financial difficulties throughout his life, and ultimately took his own life in 1815 at the age of 50.

Today, Ryba is remembered as one of the most important Czech composers of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His Czech Christmas Mass remains a beloved and popular work, and his other compositions are appreciated for their beauty and artistic value.
