Johannes Bernardus van Bree was a Dutch composer , violinist, and conductor who lived from January 29, 1801 to February 14, 1857. He was born and died in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Van Bree began his career as a violinist, studying under several notable teachers such as Carl Ludwig Junker and Pierre Rode. He later went on to become the leader of the Felix Meritis Society's orchestra in Amsterdam.

Van Bree was known for his contributions to Dutch classical music, particularly in the area of chamber music. He is best known for his "Allegro for Four String Quartets", which was written in 1831. He was also known for his work as a conductor, particularly in the performances of the works of Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn.
