Full biography Johann Schop
Johann Schop was a German Lutheran composer and violinist born in Lower Saxony, Germany in 1590 and died in 1667. He gained admiration for his virtuoso and technical ability with the violin and became known for his contributions to German baroque music. Although he was a prolific composer, many of his works have been lost over time, and only a few pieces have survived to this day.
One of Schop's most well-known compositions is the hymn "Werde munter, mein Gemüthe," which he wrote in 1642. This piece would later be adapted by Johann Sebastian Bach into what is now known as "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," which is still quite popular to this day.
Aside from his religious hymns , Johann Schop also composed secular music and collaboratively produced chamber music for string and wind instruments. His work is considered significant as it is an example of the early stages of the development of violin virtuosity and the accompanying music of the Baroque era.
Overall, Johann Schop was a prominent figure in German Baroque music, known for his talent with the violin and his contributions to both religious and secular music. While many of his compositions have been lost over time, his surviving works remain an essential reference in our understanding of the development of Baroque music.
