Johann Christoph Rothe was a German composer who lived during the Baroque era. He was born in 1653 in the town of Jena in Thuringia, Germany. Not much is known about Rothe's early life, but it is believed that he was probably educated in music at the University of Jena.

Rothe is perhaps best known as a hymn writer, and he wrote several well-known hymns during his lifetime. He also composed a number of cantatas and other sacred works. Unfortunately, many of Rothe's compositions have been lost over time, and only a few of his works have survived to the present day.

Rothe's music is generally characterized by its simple and straightforward melodies, which are often accompanied by a small ensemble of instruments. While his music may not be as complex or sophisticated as some of his contemporaries, it is nevertheless considered to be highly expressive and deeply affecting.

Rothe died in 1700 in the town of Weimar, Germany. Today, he is remembered primarily for his contributions to hymnody and for his role in the development of Baroque music in Germany.
