Short bio Jeronimas Kacinskas
Full biography Jeronimas Kacinskas
Jeronimas Kacinskas (1907-2005) was a Lithuanian composer and conductor who is considered one of the lost radicals of twentieth-century music. He was a prolific composer who wrote in many different styles, but he is best known for his microtonal works. He abandoned traditional syntax in favor of exploring the possibilities of microtonal music and established the classes of microtonal music in Kaunas and Klaipda in Lithuania.
Kacinskas studied composition with Alois Hába , a Czech composer and music theorist who worked in microtones. Hába commissioned quarter-tone compositions from Kacinskas, and this led Kacinskas to explore the possibilities of microtonal music. He wrote many microtonal works, but unfortunately, most of them were lost during World War II.
Kacinskas was an esteemed musician in his home country and had conducted more than 1,000 concerts. He was also a respected educator and served as a professor of composition at the Lithuanian Academy of Music.
Kacinskas's music is characterized by its unconventional melodies, harmonies, and rhythms. He was influenced by many different composers and styles, including Bach, Beethoven, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, and jazz. His music has been performed by many different orchestras and ensembles, and he is considered one of the most important Lithuanian composers of the twentieth century.
Kacinskas passed away in 2005, but his contributions to the world of music are still celebrated today. He was awarded the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts in 1992, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of composers and musicians.
