Jean Richafort was a Netherlandish composer during the Renaissance era, born around 1480 and died around 1547. He was known for composing Masses, Motets, Chansons, and Magnificat-settings. He wrote a requiem for six voices called "Requiem in memoriam Josquin des Prez," which was dedicated to the late composer Josquin des Prez.
Richafort's works served as models for many great composers of his time , including Morales, Gombert, and Palestrina. Despite his significant contributions to Renaissance music, there is very little biographical information available about him.
In addition, Richafort was known for his composition "Ecce Quam Bonum," which was written for the Chapel Royal of King François I. He was one of the composers of the Franco-Flemish School of composition, which produced many famous composers during the Renaissance era.
Overall, Jean Richafort was a talented composer during the Renaissance era, whose works were widely appreciated and respected by his contemporaries and successors. His music serves as an important contribution to the development of Western classical music.
