Jean-Baptiste Krumpholz was a celebrated Czech harpist and composer who lived from May 8, 1742 to February 19, 1790. He is considered to be one of the greatest harp players of the Classical era, and his compositions are still admired and studied by harpists today.

Krumpholz began playing the harp at a young age, and quickly became a virtuoso on the instrument. He went on to perform as a harpist in various orchestras and ensembles throughout Europe, dazzling audiences with his technical skill and artistry.

In addition to his work as a performer, Krumpholz was also a prolific composer. He wrote numerous works for the harp, including sonatas, concertos, and duets, as well as music for other instruments. His compositions are known for their lyrical melodies, technical challenges, and innovative use of the harp.

Krumpholz was also known for his collaborations with other musicians of his time, including the composer Louis Spohr. Both Krumpholz and Spohr wrote concertos for the harp, which helped to establish the instrument as a solo instrument in the Classical era.

Despite his success as a harpist and composer, Krumpholz's life was not without its challenges. He experienced financial difficulties throughout his career, and struggled with alcoholism. He died in Paris in 1790, at the age of 47.

Today, Krumpholz's contributions to the harp repertoire are still celebrated, and his compositions continue to inspire and captivate harpists and music lovers around the world.
