Short bio Jacques Ibert
Full biography Jacques Ibert
Jacques Ibert was a French composer of classical music , born on August 15, 1890, in Paris. He began studying music at a young age and pursued a successful career as a composer. His music is known for its colorful, technically polished, and often witty neoclassical style.
Some of his most well-known works include "Escales (Ports of Call)," a musical travel log that takes listeners to Rome, Palermo, Tunis, Nefta, and Valencia, and his ballet "Les amours de Jupiter." Ibert also composed film music and wrote operas, including "L'ouvrage," which premiered in 1927.
Ibert was the recipient of many honors and awards during his lifetime, including the Legion of Honor, the Prix de Rome, and the Grand Prix National de la Musique. He was also the head of the French Academy in Rome.
Despite his successes, Ibert remains somewhat overlooked in the canon of French composers. However, his music continues to be performed and recorded to this day, and his contributions to classical music are appreciated by those who are familiar with his work.
