Jacques Buus (c. 1500 – late August 1565) was a Franco-Flemish composer and organist of the Renaissance period. He is best known for his instrumental music and the ricercar, a type of polyphonic instrumental music popular in the 16th century. Buus served as an organist at St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, where he composed and performed music for ceremonial occasions.

In addition to his instrumental music, Buus also wrote vocal music, including motets and chansons. While his vocal music may not be as well-known as his instrumental pieces, it is still highly regarded for its intricate harmonies and expressive melodies.

Buus was part of the early Venetian School of composers, which was known for its experimentation with chromaticism and instrumental music. His works are considered to be some of the earliest examples of written instrumental music, and he is credited with popularizing the instrumental ricercar, which he wrote the longest ever composed.

Despite his contributions to music , much of Buus's life remains shrouded in mystery. There are few records of his personal life or his musical education, and even his birthplace is unknown. However, his music speaks for itself, and his contributions to the development of instrumental and vocal music during the Renaissance have earned him a lasting place in music history.
