Ivo Tijardovic was a Croatian composer, writer, and painter born on September 18, 1895, in Split, which was then part of Austria-Hungary (now Croatia). He was a member of the Unitary National Liberation Front and served as the 47th Mayor of Split. Tijardovic's work is primarily related to the Mediterranean and Dalmatian expression , especially Split. He wrote the librettos for most of his compositions.
Tijardovic has an extensive discography, and some of his most famous pieces include "Mein Shimmy," "Vertige, Valse-Boston," and "Tango-Berceuse." He also composed for films, and his work featured in the feature film "The Eighth Eternal Day" (1957).
Apart from being a composer, Tijardovic was also a writer, known for his librettos, and a painter. He directed the Croatian National Theatre in Split and is considered one of the most important Croatian composers of the 20th century. He passed away on March 19, 1976, in Zagreb, SR Croatia, Yugoslavia.
