Anton Ferdinand Tietz (1742-1811) was a German violinist and composer who was born in Nuremberg , Germany. He was a pupil of the famous composer Christoph Willibald Gluck, and later, he became a concertmaster in the court of Prince Elector of Bavaria. Tietz is known for his works for violin and orchestra, as well as his chamber music, particularly his String Quartets.
Tietz wrote over 100 works, including symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and operas. Although he was not as well-known as some of his contemporaries, such as Mozart and Haydn, his music was quite popular in his time. Tietz's String Quartets, in particular, are considered some of the best of the Classical era.
