Zebeljan began studying composition at the age of 14, with some of the most prominent names in Serbian music, including Vasilije Mokranjac and Zoran Erić. She went on to graduate from the Belgrade Academy of Music and completed her postgraduate studies in Italy and France.
Throughout her career, Zebeljan wrote over 50 works for various ensembles, including chamber, vocal, and orchestral music. Her compositions have been performed by renowned musicians and orchestras worldwide, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kronos Quartet.
Zebeljan was known for her unique approach to composing, where she combined contemporary and traditional music of the Balkans, which resulted in a distinctive sound. Her music often had an emotional and theatrical quality, and she drew inspiration from literary works and folklore.
Aside from her work as a composer, Zebeljan was also involved in film music, writing scores for several films, including "The Professional," which won Best Original Score at the European Film Awards in 2004.
