Isaac Nathan was a prominent English composer, musicologist, and journalist, who was born in Canterbury in 1791. He was known as the "Father of Australian Music", and was involved in the development of music in Australia during the early 19th century. Nathan was a prolific composer, conductor, and singer, and was highly regarded for his work in reviving traditional Jewish music.

In addition to his musical career, Nathan was also a journalist and self-publicist who was known for his flamboyant style. He was interested in the history of music, and wrote a number of books and articles on the subject. Nathan is perhaps best known for his collaboration with Lord Byron, which resulted in the publication of a series of poems on Hebrew themes set to music.

Despite his many accomplishments, Nathan's personal life was often tumultuous, and he struggled with financial difficulties throughout his career. He suffered from poor health in later life, and died in London in 1864. Despite the challenges he faced, Nathan's contributions to music and musicology have been widely recognized, and he remains an important figure in the history of Australian music.
