Henry Holmes was a British composer, violinist, and music educator who lived from November 7, 1839, to December 9, 1905. He is known for his compositions, which include a violin concerto, string quartets, and many other chamber music works. Holmes was also a talented performer and educator. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London and served as conductor of the Carl Rosa Opera Company and the Crystal Palace concerts.

Holmes' compositions are characterized by their romanticism and their affinity with the music of Johannes Brahms. Though not as well-known as some of his contemporaries, Holmes was an accomplished composer who left behind a substantial body of work, including over 36 published works. His music is remembered to this day for its masterful blending of classical forms with the melodic and harmonic sensibilities of the Romantic era.
