Hans Erich Apostel was a composer who was born on January 8, 1901, in Karlsruhe, Germany and died on November 30, 1972, in Vienna, Austria. He is known for being a faithful disciple of Arnold Schoenberg and Alban Berg , having studied under them in Vienna. He is considered to be a member of the Second Viennese School, which is a group of composers that includes Arnold Schoenberg and his students.
Apostel was interested in atonal and twelve-tone composition, which were the hallmarks of the Second Viennese School. His compositions feature complex harmonies and polyphonic textures that are typical of the genre. Some of his notable compositions include "Kubiniana" and "Requiem."
In addition to his work as a composer, Apostel was also a teacher, and he taught at the State Academy of Music in Stuttgart, Germany, and the Academy of Music in Vienna, Austria. Among his students were Max Deutsch and Ernst Krenek, who went on to become well-known composers in their own right.
