Short bio Guillaume Faugues
Full biography Guillaume Faugues
Guillaume Faugues was a French composer who lived in the fifteenth century. He was a highly individualistic composer, consistent in his literalism. Faugues was known for his anonymous masses that have no tenor voice, which made them unique. Unfortunately, much of his work was lost over time, and his name is often missing from general histories of music and Renaissance surveys.
Faugues worked with other notable composers of his time, such as Philippe Basiron, who became briefly magister in 1462. There is little information available about Faugues himself, but his compositions have been studied and recorded and have received critical acclaim. One of his most famous compositions is the Missa L'homme arm, which is entirely canonic and widely regarded as an innovative work of its time.
Despite his relative obscurity, Faugues remains an important figure in the history of music, and his work continues to be studied and played by musicians and scholars today.
