Giovanni Rovetta was an Italian Baroque composer who lived from around 1595/97 to 1668. He is best known for his work as the maestro di capella of the Capella Marciana at St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. During his tenure, Rovetta composed a large number of sacred vocal works, including motets and psalm settings, which were performed in the basilica.
Rovetta was highly regarded by his contemporaries, and his works were known for their expressive melodies and intricate harmonies. Despite his popularity during his lifetime, Rovetta's music fell into obscurity after his death, and it was not until the 20th century that his music began to be rediscovered by musicologists and performers.
