Giovanni Maria Ruggieri, also known as Giovanni Maria Ruggeri, was a Baroque composer from Italy, who was born around 1665, although the exact dates of his birth and death remain uncertain. He was an impresario as well, and a colourful character, both of which were reflected in his music. He composed a number of cantatas, including his Opus 5 collection, which is still available today.

While Ruggieri's music may not be widely known or performed today, it did have an impact on the work of one of the most famous Baroque composers, Antonio Vivaldi. Vivaldi borrowed heavily from Ruggieri's music, particularly in his Gloria RV 588, which uses material from Ruggieri's double orchestra-and-choir setting of the same text ). Other Vivaldi compositions, such as "Laudamus te" from the Gloria, show clear influences from Ruggieri's work as well.

Despite his modest lasting fame, Ruggieri's contributions to Baroque music is highly appreciated. Several of his works are available online, including his Opus 5 cantatas, and scholars can continue to study and appreciate his unique contributions to the Baroque era of music.
