Gioacchino Cocchi was a renowned Italian composer, pianist and music educator who lived from 1840 until 1903. He was born and raised in the Italian city of Bologna where he later established himself as a prominent figure in the Italian classical music scene during the late 19th century.

Cocchi was a prolific composer and is said to have written over 200 pieces of music, ranging from solo piano works to vocal and instrumental concertos, operatic arias, and chamber music. His music was described as lyrical and elegant, with a clear influence of the romantic period.

Cocchi was a professor at the Liceo Musicale in Bologna, where he taught piano and composition. Some of his most famous students were the composer and conductor Ottorino Respighi, and pianist Leone Sinigaglia. Cocchi was widely respected as a teacher and was known for his patience, attentiveness, and thoroughness in his teaching methods.

Despite his successful career as a composer and educator, Cocchi's music was not widely performed outside of Italy during his lifetime. However, his work has since received greater recognition and appreciation from modern audiences. Some of his most famous compositions include the opera, "La Fiera di Bologna," "Tre pezzi concertati" (Three Concerted Pieces) for violin, cello, and piano, and a series of piano works called "Pensieri musicale."
