Short bio Ghiselin Danckerts
Full biography Ghiselin Danckerts
Ghiselin Danckerts was a Dutch composer, singer, and music theorist of the Renaissance period. He was active during the mid-16th century and spent much of his career in Rome, where he served in the Pope's chapel. Danckerts had a reputation as a composer, but very few of his works have survived, and only three of his riddle canons remain. These include his famous "Ave Maris Stella" motet which has been described as one of his most puzzling compositions. Danckerts also wrote on musical theory and was well-respected in his time as a music teacher and educator. Overall, while his surviving output may be limited, Danckerts' contributions to Renaissance music were noteworthy and his influence can still be felt today.
