Charles Dancla (1817-1907) was a French violinist, composer, and teacher. He was born on December 24, 1817, in Bagnères-de-Bigorre, France, and showed early musical talent. He went on to become a celebrated virtuoso violinist and an esteemed composer, renowned for his contributions to the violin repertoire.

Dancla studied at the Paris Conservatory, where he won the first prize for violin in 1835. He went on to embark on a successful career as a performer and composer, touring throughout Europe and the United States and playing with some of the most renowned musicians of his time.

As a composer, Dancla is best known for his contributions to the violin repertoire. He wrote a large number of works for the violin, including numerous concertos, sonatas, and études. He was also a prolific writer of chamber music, composing at least sixteen string quartets , several piano trios, and many other chamber works.

In addition to his work as a composer, Dancla was a highly regarded teacher. He taught at the Paris Conservatory from 1860 to 1892, where his students included such eminent musicians as Jules Massenet, Gabriel Fauré, and Claude Debussy.
