Full biography George Linley
George Linley (1797-1865) was an English composer and lyricist, best known for his contributions to vocal music. Born in Leeds, he began his music career as a chorister at York Minster before studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Linley's output included a wide variety of vocal music, including songs, ballads, and operatic works. He was also an accomplished pianist and violinist.
Linley's songs and ballads were particularly popular during his lifetime, and many of his works were published in song collections and performed in public concerts. Some of his most famous songs include "Ever of Thee I'm Fondly Dreaming" and "God Bless the Prince of Wales". Linley was also the librettist for several of his own operas , including "The Wedding Gown" and "The Gipsy's Warning".
In addition to his work as a composer and lyricist, Linley also contributed verses to various publications and wrote articles on music. He was a well-respected figure in the English music scene during his lifetime, and his works were praised for their melodiousness and lyricism.
Today, George Linley's music is less well-known than that of some of his contemporaries, but his contributions to English vocal music continue to be appreciated by music historians and enthusiasts.
