Thomas Linley the Younger was an English musician and composer. Born in 1756 in Bath, England, he showed great musical talent from a young age and received musical education from his father, Thomas Linley the Elder, who was also a musician.
As a child prodigy, Linley the Younger made his public debut at the age of nine, performing at the Bath Assembly Rooms. He went on to become a violinist and composer of considerable acclaim. His works included vocal music, chamber music, and a number of orchestral works.
In 1772, Linley the Younger moved to London to continue his music studies. He became a member of the Bach-Abel concerts, where he met and played alongside many notable musicians of the time. However, his life was tragically cut short in 1778, when he drowned aged 22.
Despite his early demise, Linley the Younger's music had a lasting impact on the British classical music scene. Some of his most notable works include his "Ode on the Spirits of Shakespeare" and "The Song of Moses." He was also known for his talents as a pianist and violinist. His musical abilities were widely admired during his lifetime and beyond, with many contemporaries praising his skill and natural genius as a composer and performer.
