Gaetano Besozzi was an Italian composer and oboist born on April 1, 1725 in Parma, Italy. He was the principal oboist at the Savoy court in Turin from 1749 to 1786. He was a prolific composer of both chamber and orchestral music, and wrote numerous works for oboe, including several concertos and chamber pieces. Besozzi was known for his virtuosity on the oboe and his compositions often showcased his own abilities as a performer.
Besozzi's music shows the influence of both the Baroque and Classical periods, and his chamber music in particular demonstrates his skill in writing for individual instruments and smaller ensembles. He was a member of a musical family, and several of his brothers and other family members were also professional musicians.
