Franz Nikolaus Novotny was an Austrian composer and organist at the Esterházy court who lived from 1743 to 1773. He was the son of Johann Novotn, who was also an organist at the same court, and was born in Neusohl, present-day Slovakia. Novotny composed primarily instrumental pieces, including symphonies, overtures, and chamber music. Unfortunately, he passed away at the young age of 29, which may have contributed to his relative obscurity in the field of classical music. Nevertheless, he was known for his skillful use of counterpoint and incorporation of Baroque elements into his compositions. One of his surviving pieces is the Concerto for Harpsichord and Orchestra in F major, which demonstrates his talent as a composer and his devotion to the Baroque style. Despite his short career, Franz Nikolaus Novotny left a lasting impact on the classical music world, particularly during his time at the Esterházy court.
