Franz Bendel was a German composer and pianist, born on March 19, 1833, in Prague, Bohemia (now Czech Republic). He was a prolific composer who wrote many works for the piano, including sonatas, variations, transcriptions, and nocturnes.

Bendel's early years were spent in Prague, where he studied piano and composition with some of the leading composers of the time. After completing his studies, he moved to Berlin, where he continued to write and perform as a pianist, gaining a reputation as both a composer and performer.
