Frantisek Skroup was a renowned Czech composer and musician, born on June 2, 1801, in the Czech town of Chotesov. Skroup is best known for composing the music to the Czech national anthem, "Kde domov můj?" or "Where is my home?"

Growing up, Skroup exhibited a keen interest in music, and he began studying piano and composition at an early age. He later enrolled in the Prague Conservatory, where he studied under several renowned composers, including Josef Elsner.

In 1834, Skroup was commissioned to write the music for a play called "Fidlovačka," which would become his most famous work. It was during his work on the play that he composed the music for the Czech national anthem, which would eventually be adopted as the official anthem of Czechoslovakia.

Throughout his career, Skroup composed numerous operas, cantatas, and chamber music pieces. Some of his most notable works include "Dráteník," "Tramtárie," and "Erbenka." He was also a respected music educator, and he founded a singing school in Prague where he taught music theory and composition.

Skroup's contributions to Czech music and culture were significant, and his legacy continues to be celebrated throughout the Czech Republic. He died on February 7, 1862, in Prague, but his music lives on as a testament to his talent and dedication to his craft.
