Frantisek Domažlický was a Czech composer born on June 22, 1923 in the town of Domažlice in Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). He is best known for his contributions to the field of classical music, particularly his string quartets and chamber music works.

Domažlický began his musical training at a young age, studying the violin and composition at the Conservatory of Pilsen. He continued his studies in Prague under the renowned Czech composer Alois Hába, who was a pioneer in the field of microtonal music.

Domažlický's musical style is characterized by its use of experimental techniques, such as microtones and modal scales. His compositions are known for their intricate counterpoint and innovative use of harmony. Domažlický often drew inspiration from Czech folk music and the traditions of his homeland.

Despite his talent and contributions to the field of classical music, Domažlický remained relatively unknown to the broader public throughout his career. He was recognized, however, by his fellow musicians and composers, who held him in high regard for his commitment to experimentation and his dedication to the craft of composition.

Domažlický passed away on September 4, 1997, in Prague, leaving behind a legacy of innovative and compelling compositions. His works continue to be studied and performed by musicians and scholars around the world, cementing his place as one of the great Czech composers of the 20th century.
