Full biography Francois Rebel
Francois Rebel (1701-1775) was a French composer and violinist, born in Paris as the son of composer Jean-Fery Rebel. He was a member of the "Vingt-quatre violons du roi" (Twenty-four Violins of the King), a prestigious ensemble at the court of Louis XV. Francois Rebel followed in his father's footsteps and became a well-known composer and violinist in his own right.
He was a prolific collaborator and composer, working on several operas, chamber music, and orchestral works with his father and other musicians such as Francois Francoeur. Rebel and Francoeur collaborated on 20 successful stage pieces and also wrote orchestral music together. Some his notable works include his opera Les Elemens (The Elements), which is known for its innovative use of harmony and orchestration, and his Concert pour violon, which was an important piece for the development of the French violin sonata.
Francois Rebel's compositions are characterized by their highly expressive nature and their experimentation with musical form and structure. His contribution to French musical traditions is notable, and his works remain influential to this day.
