Francois Emmanuel Joseph Bazin was a French composer who was born on March 4, 1816, in Marseille, France and died on July 2, 1878, in Paris, France. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Antoine-Francois Marmontel for the piano, Francois Benoist for organ, and Fromental Halevy for composition. Bazin was a prolific composer and wrote a large number of works, including operas, ballets, and chamber music, among other genres.

Bazin is known for his operas, which were very popular in France during the 19th century. His most famous work is probably his opera "Maître Pathelin," which premiered in Paris in 1856 and was widely performed throughout Europe. He also wrote the music for the comic operetta "Les noces de Jeannette" (Jeannette's Wedding), which was one of the most successful works of its time.

Aside from his operas, Bazin also wrote a large number of instrumental works, including piano music, chamber music, and orchestral music. One of his most famous instrumental works is his "Airs de Ballet d'Ascanio," which is still performed and recorded today.
