Esther Williamson Ballou (1915-1973) was an American composer , musician, and faculty member at American University in Washington, D.C. She was born in Iowa and began playing the piano at a young age. She went on to study at the University of Utah and later received her Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Ballou's compositions were noted for their lyricism and clarity, with influences from neoclassical and modernist styles. She wrote music for a variety of instruments, including works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and piano. One of her notable works is the "Suite for Winds," which was premiered by the National Gallery Orchestra in 1960.

As a faculty member at American University, Ballou taught composition, theory, and ear training. She was instrumental in establishing the Ballou Memorial Scholarship, which provides financial support to undergraduate students in the music program at American University.
