Emmanuel Bondeville was a French composer and music administrator , born in Rouen, France on October 29, 1898, and died in Paris on November 26, 1987, at the age of 89. He is known for his contributions to the field of classical music during the 20th century.
Bondeville was a contemporary of several other French composers such as Florent Schmitt, Alexandre Tansman, and Pierre-Octave Ferroud. He was a member of the Société Nationale de Musique and had close ties with the famed Paris Conservatoire. Along with Henry Barraud, Jean Rivier and Pierre-Octave Ferroud, Bondeville formed a group often referred to as "Les Six," a group of young composers who sought to move away from the traditional styles of composition.
Bondeville was a prolific and versatile composer, with works ranging from opera, to orchestral and chamber music, to songs and choral compositions. He worked as an administrator for the Paris Opera and also taught at the Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris from 1950 to 1970.
Some of Bondeville's notable works include his opera "Le Chemin de Ciel," his "Sonata for Clarinet and Piano," and his "Quintet for Piano and Winds."
